Stuffing is a cylindrical chamber or cavity located around the pump shaft, positioned between the bearing housing and the pump volute (casing). Its primary purpose is to hold the sealing material—the gland packing—to prevent the pumped fluid from leaking out and to prevent air from leaking into the pump.
