Description

🛠️ Function and Design

Pipe rollers are designed to manage, support, and reduce friction for the product pipe (such as HDPE or steel) as it is being pulled back through the pre-drilled bore hole by the HDD rig.

  • Support and Movement: They hold the pipe off the ground in the staging area (the pipe lay-down area) and allow it to be rolled smoothly toward the entry point of the bore. This prevents the pipe from dragging directly on the soil, which would cause excessive wear and friction.
  • Reduced Pulling Force: By minimizing friction, pipe rollers significantly reduce the amount of tensile force (pulling load) required by the HDD rig, which helps protect the pipe from damage and lowers the stress on the drilling equipment.
  • Materials: They are built to be heavy-duty and durable. The frame is typically made of steel (like Mild Steel or High-Speed Steel), while the roller wheel itself is often coated in a non-abrasive material like Nylon or Polyurethane (PU) to protect the pipe’s exterior coating.
  • Types: Common types include cylindrical rollers and cone-type rollers, often designed to handle pipe diameters ranging from 4 inches up to 24 inches or more, with heavy load capacities.
