Description
The Unit and Purpose of the Filtration Test
The LPLT Filter Press simulates the hydrostatic pressure exerted by the mud column against the borehole wall and measures how effectively the drilling fluid forms a low-permeability filter cake.
- API Filtrate Volume: The industry standard measurement is the volume of fluid lost after 30 minutes at 100 psi (pounds per square inch) pressure.
- Primary Unit of Measure: Millilitres (mL) per 30 minutes.
Key Measurements from the Filter Press
Beyond the primary filtrate volume (mL/30min), the test also yields two crucial qualitative measurements:
- Filter Cake Thickness: The thickness (mm or inches) and quality of the cake formed on the filter paper.A thin, tough, and slick cake is ideal.
- Filtrate Quality: The appearance of the collected filtrate (liquid). Clear filtrate indicates a good, stable fluid; cloudy filtrate suggests that excessive fine solids are passing through the cake.
We supply robust, portable LPLT Filter Press Units and necessary consumables (filter paper, pressurized cylinder) designed to meet strict API testing standards. Equip your HDD site to precisely monitor and control fluid loss, guaranteeing wellbore integrity and minimizing project risks.
